Love What you Do – Inspiration from Steve Jobs

We’ve all heard the sad news of Steve Jobs passing yesterday.

Steve jobs was a man that we can all look up to for the way he has revolutionised how we keep in touch with each other with all his innovation at apple Computers.

No matter what you think about Apple, I am sure you can agree that Steve Job is a man who we can all learn from and so respect deeply.

He is an inspiration to us all and a reminder that life is here to be embraced and it is up to each one of us to live that part of life that was designed purely for us. When we do, miracles will occur and we will offer great service to the world.‎

Love What you Do

“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do,” he told the Stanford grads in 2005.

“If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on.” — Steve Jobs

I wish I had Steve Jobs speaking to me like this when I was at school, my teachers sure didn’t. There was scarcely a mention of the word “love,” mostly it was about getting a “good job” that “pays well.

A lot of the time this doesn’t involve doing what you love, because doing what you love involves hard work, commitment, total passion, pain and suffering and most of the time it does not involve getting paid well. At least in the beginning.

I finished school having no clue what I wanted to do with my life. Actually, probably with no clue as to what I just learned in school for 12 years that would help me figure it out.

I chose to study teaching, because it sounded like a good job that pays well (that was until I did it and learned it pays shite!!)

Without even knowing it, the teaching would soon lead to me doing what I loved.

It set me on the path to travel and got me around the world for 14 years. But a time came when I realized that I wasn’t doing anything with this great love of mine, and the older I got the harder I found to continue it as the visa options ran out and the money ran low.

Do Not Settle

The intense desire in me would not leave.

I had to find what it was that I was born to do. I looked and looked, and failed and failed. Underneath all this looking and failing was a deeper love of mine that I refused to acknowledge due to doubt and insecurity.

I wanted to write.

Ever since the fourth grade when I wrote my first “big girl” story about a horse. I made it into an illustrated book and gently handed it to my teacher, silently praying that he would love it. That was when I felt first the passionate pull that comes from doing what you love.

I don’t know what happened, but somewhere along the line that which I had always dreamed about became buried in self loathing.

I felt I was a crap writer and no one would be interested in what I had to say. Writing then became a silent-journal love of mine, the only place I felt safe to express myself.

It took a lot of pain in my life before I woke up to the fact that this was what I needed to do, this was what I wanted to do.

The Universe tried in so many ways to tell me and eventually I found the bravery I needed to knock out the fear and start.

I followed Steve Jobs advice,

I kept looking and I did not settle until I heard my heart truly speaking to me.

As he says it gets better and better as the years go by. I’m still not making a living out of my blogging, but I am at the beginnings of creating a lifestyle. And I will not settle nor stop until I do, and even then I’ll keep evolving, just like he did to create

The lifestyle that has always been in my dreams and the lifestyle designed just for me.

Endless travel and writing about it with the idea of sharing and the hope that I can inspire others to find what it is they love to do and to go and live it.

You have to love what you do. It is the single strongest message I have ever heard from any successful person or entrepreneur.

When you love it, you won’t quit on it, and you’ll get through the hard times.

When you love it, you’ll bound out of bed each morning with unlimited passion and enthusiasm

When you love it, your heart will sing and you will project that positive energy out into a world that so desperately needs it.

When you love it, you will want everyone to feel and experience the same thing, and you’ll do whatever you can to help them find it as well.

Thank you to Steve Jobs for all you did to improve the world of communications, but most of all thank you for all you did in encouraging us all to find what we love to do so we can be fulfilled and do great work and make a difference.

I love your story Caz. I too always wanted to write but let fear stop me for so long. I finally made the plunge and released my first novel last year; Lost in Italy by Kate Cornwell (my pen name). I’m now working on a book about our travels to Europe and the wild things we’ve been through, especially since we got to Italy. It’s title: Call Me Crazy. 🙂 I can’t say enough about how important it is to follow your dreams until you get there. I am finally doing everything I ever dreamed of; living in Italy and writing for a living. It’s amazing!

    Love your blog.

Thank you for this post! I was trained since I was a little girl to go to school, get a job, make money and buy a big house and lots of stuff to fill that big house!

Well…I did end up going to school, getting a job, making lots of money and hating that job. I’m a newbie blogger and may be late to the party but I’m loving every minute of it. My husband and I love to travel and enjoy working from home or wherever we may be. Thank you for this post and I also love your blog:) Keep inspiring!

you are welcome and thank you! It takes a lot of courage to make the jump into doing what you love to do. But, if you stick with it only great things will come from it. That energy you throw out into the world is soooo great for it!

Thanks for sharing. Steve Jobs is still inspiring, and you’re an inspiration too!

I believe, and see, that each one of us that does what he loves starts a ripple effect, that pushes others to do what they love as well.

I shared it with my readers, I wish you the best on your journey!

Thank you so much Mary. I think each of us, in doing what we love, can be a light for others to do the same
